Nightscapes

Edit your Milky Way and aurora photos

Open one finished nightscape, a single exposure or a stack you made elsewhere, and it comes up exactly as you shot it. Then bring out the sky with a few controls, or press Image Enhance for an AI version beside your own.

Free to try. There is no account to create.

Editing, not processing

The Nightscapes page does not stack, align or calibrate anything. You give it one picture and it opens as it is, turned the right way up, ready to edit. That makes it the quick place for a Milky Way over a ridge, an aurora over a lake, a moonlit landscape or a phone shot of the night sky.

The controls a night sky needs

Finishing has Exposure, Contrast, Highlights, Saturation, Denoise and Sharpening, each a slider you can move and return to automatic. Lift the faint sky with Exposure, hold back a bright horizon glow with Highlights, and clean up high-ISO grain with Denoise. Frame turns, mirrors and crops the picture.

Image Enhance, when you want it

Image Enhance sends the picture to an AI model and shows the answer beside your own, so you can compare and keep the one you prefer. On a nightscape it may change the picture a great deal: the sky brighter, the colour richer, the ground clearer. AI can make mistakes, so look before you keep it. It runs only when you press it, uses one credit, and is the only step that sends your picture anywhere.

Export the picture on screen

Export writes what you see: the enhanced picture if you kept it, your own edit otherwise. Save as TIFF or PNG for printing and further editing, FITS for archiving, or JPEG to share.

Does Akastroid stack my Milky Way frames?

No. The Nightscapes page is for editing one finished picture: a single exposure, or a stack you made in another program. It opens as it is, with nothing stacked or processed, and you take it from there.

Which files can I open?

One picture at a time: a camera raw, a JPEG, a PNG, a TIFF or a FITS file. A phone picture works too.

What does Image Enhance do to a nightscape?

It sends the picture to an AI model and shows you a cleaner, brighter version beside your own. On a nightscape the answer is allowed to change the picture a lot, so check it before you keep it; AI can make mistakes. It runs only when you press it and uses one credit.

Is my picture uploaded?

Only when you press Image Enhance, and only that picture. Opening, editing and exporting all happen on your own computer.
